“Pelé: the Birth of a Legend” opens today in two NYC theaters: the IFC Center and the Lincoln Plaza Cinema. Directed by Jeff and Mike Zimbalist, the film is a beautiful life story as well as a celebration of Brazilian culture. It tells the trajectory of the Brazilian soccer player’s rise to glory, from a young impoverished boy, to the 17 year old who scored the winning goal in Brazil’s first ever World Cup victory in 1958.
